Michael L. Basili

Michael Basili is a member of the firm’s Tax and Estate Planning group.

Michael focuses his practice on sophisticated estate planning and wealth transfer strategies for high-net-worth individuals, families and business owners. He helps clients structure and implement plans designed to maximize and preserve wealth for future generations. Michael also advises clients on estate and trust administration and charitable planning.

In addition to advising clients on estate planning and wealth transfer strategies, Michael acts as “general counsel” to closely held businesses, coordinating a wide array of legal services.

Experience

• Advised various high-net-worth individuals, including professional athletes, executives and business owners, in drafting estate plans, including revocable trusts, wills, powers of attorney for property and healthcare and various types of irrevocable trusts (SLATs, GRATs, ILITS, and other IDGTs).
• Assisted multi-generational families in the creation and implementation of sophisticated estate and tax planning strategies, including the transfer of ownership interests in business entities and the creation of trusts which are structured to remove assets from the transfer tax system, ensuring tax-free transfers to future generations.
• Represented executors and trustees in complex estate and trust administration matters, including the preparation of estate and gift tax returns, probate administration, estate settlement and trust modifications.
• Serves as outside “general counsel” to closely held businesses and advises on S corporation shareholder eligibility, stock transfer and other corporate governance matters.
