Jason Sobelman is a member of the Litigation practice area and routinely represents clients in state and federal courts throughout the United States, with substantial involvement in the defense of complex commercial litigation and government and internal corporate investigations.
Jason’s results-driven counsel ensures the best possible outcomes in intricate business and breach of contract disputes, directors’ and officers’ liability, fraud, and securities claims.
Jason plays an instrumental role in all of his cases. He guides clients through all phases of litigation, from early case assessment and discovery to motion practice to trial preparation and oral argument, ensuring solutions align with the client’s objectives. Jason is also commonly sought out for his experience with arbitration, including through FINRA and the AAA, where he has tried cases to both final award and resolved actions prior to final hearings on the merits.
Jason brings practical experience from his externship assisting federal prosecutors in the White Collar Division and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, where he conducted evidence analysis, prepared grand jury materials, and drafted pretrial and appellate briefs. He leverages his diverse litigation background to anticipate opposing arguments, manage risk, and help clients achieve efficient, outcome-driven resolutions.
Experience
- Defeated multiple motions to dismiss filed by multiple defendants claiming lack of personal jurisdiction and failure to state a claim; motions denied in their entirety.
- Successfully obtained the dismissal, with prejudice, of a former unit holder’s claims for breach of fiduciary duty and fraud seeking $30 million in alleged damages and declaratory judgment on indemnity claim for attorneys’ fees.
- Secured summary judgment and damages in excess of $3 million on a breach of contract dispute that the Illinois Court of Appeals affirmed.
- Defending a healthcare system in a federal class action alleging patient-privacy violations relating to alleged website activity tracking tools.
- Represented a healthcare executive accused of conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute in multi-week federal jury trial.
